The Towson Learning Network partners with Charles County Public Schools to offer programs that focus on the goals of the school system and the professional development needs of school system employees. 

The Towson Learning Network offers a variety of master's programs and Post-Baccalaureate Certificate (PBC) programs at reduced tuition rates to Charles County Public Schools employees. Classes are held at the University System of Maryland at Southern Maryland (USMSM).

Programs

The Autism Studies Post-Baccalaureate Certificate provides you with the knowledge and skill set required to work with both children and adults across the autism spectrum. Learn about the typical traits of individuals on the spectrum, their gifts and challenges, co-occurring conditions, epidemiology, evidence-based interventions, classroom and workplace strategies, family impact, and research and key policy issues. This certificate validates your commitment to working in the field and prepares you to broaden your role as an educator, early childhood professional, mental health professional, occupational therapist, speech-language pathologist, agency staff and disability specialist, researcher, advocate or policymaker.

Towson’s master’s degree in early childhood education is one of the few programs of its kind in the region, crafted to the needs of working professionals in a variety of careers and locations. You will benefit from the degree if you are involved in administration, supervision and mentoring in early childhood programs, elementary or primary grade teaching, family/community support, early intervention, resource and referral, program licensing, infant and toddler programs, or other roles in the community with young children and families. Whether you want to grow in competence in your current career or advance in the field, the program will help you stand out from the crowd.

The program is designed to provide certified middle and high school teachers with an in-depth study of mathematics and its teaching and learning. Teachers in our program learn powerful mathematics, closely tied to the curriculum they teach, while also gaining practical pedagogical expertise as well as analytic and leadership skills. Our graduates are prepared for leadership positions in mathematics education such as master teachers, curriculum developers and mathematics supervisors. Designed for current and future middle school mathematics teachers, including those with a background in elementary education.

The Organizational Change Certificate of Advanced Study offers:

The Master of Education in reading education program is designed to prepare reading teachers and reading specialists, primarily for PreK-12 education but also for community colleges, industry, adult education programs, commercial education centers and private practice.

The program will prepare you to:

  • provide specialized literacy instruction and assessment, in cooperation with other professionals, to students at all levels
  • provide literacy services individually and in groups
    communicate with colleagues, parents and the community about literacy issues, and conduct professional development workshops on literacy topics
  • coach and mentor colleagues
  • advocate for literacy development
  • interpret literacy research

The master’s degree in Transformational Educational Leadership (with embedded courses for Administrator I certification) prepares you to be a dynamic and effective leader in America’s schools. We promote an expanded view of leadership that includes leading from the classroom as well as the traditional school administrator pathway.

Reduced Tuition

Through a contractual agreement with your employer, tuition for courses are discounted. You may request full tuition reimbursement for which you are eligible after successful completion of the course by following the process managed by your employer. After payment and reimbursement, most students will not incur any tuition cost.

The TU application fee of $45 is waived.  Participants are responsible for purchasing course texts. A required electronic portfolio software program, with a one-time fee of $113, will be used in all College of Education graduate programs.
