About the Program:
The purpose of this M.Ed. Reading Education program is to prepare future leaders in literacy education who will continue their careers as classroom teachers, reading specialists, and/or literacy coaches. The program includes social justice, DEI, and multilingual learner emphases along with advanced literacy knowledge and experiences for leading literacy programs and instruction in schools and school systems.  


Completion of the program leads to advanced certification with MSDE as a Reading Specialist. Elective coursework prepares certified teachers to pursue MSDE ESOL endorsement through preparation for the Praxis II ESOL exam. Students can also receive a TU Teaching English Learners Graduate Certificate. 

Reduced Program Costs

  • Through a contractual agreement with your employer, tuition for courses are discounted approximately 50%.
  • The TU application fee of $45 is waived.
  • Participants are responsible for purchasing course texts.
  • A required electronic portfolio software program, with a one-time fee of $120, will be used in all College of Education graduate programs.
