About the Program:
The Autism in the Classroom Graduate Certificate provides a comprehensive understanding of the unique challenges of students with ASD and their families and the most effective, evidence-based practices and strategies to support the learning and social success of these students in school and the community.

About the Program:
Graduates of the MAT program are eligible for teacher certification in the general education tracks of early childhood, elementary and secondary education.

  • Early childhood education prepares students to teach Pre-K through grade three.
  • Elementary education prepares students to teach grades one through six.
  • Secondary education prepares students to teach grades seven through 12 in biology, chemistry, earth-space science, English, mathematics, physics, or history/social studies. 
  • World Languages prepares students to teach Pre-K through grade 12 in French or Spanish.

About the Program:
This is a program in special education for those who currently hold a Maryland teaching license. At the completion of this program and after passing the required MSDE Praxis II tests, graduates will be eligible to receive an endorsement in special education.

The program provides the skill development and knowledge base established by the Council for Exceptional Children's Standards for Beginning Special Educators. Completion of course requirements meets the Maryland State Department of Education's Special Education Generic Certification in:

  • Infant–primary (birth-grade 3), or
  • Elementary–middle (grades 1-8), or
  • Secondary–adult (grades 6-12+) levels.

The program emphases are:

  • inclusive practices,
  • collaboration and consultation,
  • translation of effective instruction,
  • assessment,
  • research into practice, and
  • cross-categorical disability approach.

Reduced Program Costs

  • Through a contractual agreement with your employer, tuition for courses are significantly reduced.
  • The TU application fee of $50 is waived.
  • Participants are responsible for purchasing course texts.
  • A required electronic portfolio software program, with a one-time fee of $120, will be used in all College of Education graduate programs.
