Incoming Undergraduates

To apply for all available aid programs for new/incoming freshman and transfer students, complete these application steps.

Our financial Aid Calendar summarizes the monthly steps in the financial aid and admissions process. You must reapply for many aid programs every year except for renewable scholarships.

Application Steps

  1. Apply for fall admission by December 1.

The admissions office offers a limited number of merit-based admission scholarships to full-time incoming freshman and transfer students who apply for fall admission by December 1. Awards are based on academic achievements without regard to financial need.

To apply for these scholarships, submit a complete fall semester Admission Application (including transcripts) by December 1. No additional scholarship application is required. Most recipients are notified by early March.

  2. Review the general Eligibility Requirements for federal aid.
  3. To apply for grants or loans, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) process.
  4. Maryland residents, should apply for aid from the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC).

Both students and parents must be residents of Maryland. Some MHEC aid programs only require the FAFSA but many require additional applications.

    a) Many MHEC aid programs require you to submit a FAFSA by March 1.

    b) Review MHEC's aid programs and complete their additional applications.

    c) Transfer students — If you change schools mid-year or after you have already accepted your MHEC aid, you must visit:  MDCAPS to reassign your awards to your new school.

    d) Transfer students from Maryland community colleges should review MHEC's 2 +2 Transfer Scholarship.

  5. Apply for TU Foundation Scholarships from private donors.
  6. Explore TU's Departmental Scholarships.
  7. Use our Scholarship Seeker to search for additional TU and MHEC scholarships.
  8. Search for other Private Scholarships.
  9. We start sending award notifications to new students by early March.
  10. To review and accept your awards, follow the instructions in Your Award Guide. It explains everything you need to know about accepting, receiving and retaining awards.
