Communication Studies (B.S.)

This major takes a three-pronged approach to communication studies. First, gain a greater understanding of the role that communication plays in shaping culture and identity. Second, analyze the ways in which the process of meaning-making — through words, images, symbols or technology — strategically influences human judgment and actions. Third, sharpen your critical thinking abilities as you become a more ethical producer and consumer of messages.

Towson University’s specially designed, integrated major provides a strong academic foundation and real-world experiences that help beginning teachers understand how young children of all ability levels develop and learn. You’ll gain the knowledge, skills and dispositions you need to teach in the preschool and primary grades. At the completion of the program, you will have the opportunity to become certified to teach both early childhood (pre-K through grade 3) and special education (birth through grade 3).
