About

Towson Opportunities in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) is a program that was initially funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) in 2007.

Towson Opportunities in STEM (TOPS) is currently sponsored by the Fisher College of Science and Mathematics (FCSM) and is dedicated to increasing the number of students who successfully complete an undergraduate degree in science or mathematics from Towson University and pursue a career in a STEM field.

TOPS is a learning community of science students who share an interest in STEM careers, research opportunities and sharing what they know with others through peer mentoring and cohort events. The TOPS program will help students locate tutors for your challenging courses and facilitate study groups which are known to improve student success. TOPS will guide individual students to resources on campus that will enable them to succeed.

TOPS focuses on enhancing academic achievement and career opportunities in STEM by providing financial, academic, professional, and social support for TOPS participants, depending on individual needs. We are designed to help ensure students' success in STEM majors.

At Towson, the following departments and majors fall within STEM:

Students from marginalized communities who are interested in pursuing a major in one of these fields should consider applying to the TOPS program.
