Regular and contingent II faculty, staff and lecturers are eligible for annual, holiday, personal and sick leave. Please review the leave summaries below for specific information based on employee classification. Subject to leave policies, eligible employees may be able to utilize other types of leave, including administrative leave and family and medical leave.
Effective April 1, 2020, the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) was enacted to enable eligible employees to take up to 80 hours of emergency paid sick leave or access expanded coverage under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) for reasons related to COVID-19. Eligible employees may take up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave during a 12-month period as outlined in the FMLA policy.
Eligible employees may utilize parental leave surrounding the birth or adoption of a child. When qualified, FMLA runs concurrent with parental leave.
Workers' Compensation/Accident Leave may be available to employees who suffer a work-related illness or injury.
An employee who sustains a temporary recoverable illness or injury and has exhausted all other forms of accrued leave may be eligible for additional forms of sick leave as described in the sick leave policy. All requests for additional forms of sick leave are subject to review and approval by the Office of Human Resources.
Contingent I hourly employees and certain student employees are eligible for sick leave in accordance with the Maryland Healthy Working Families Act.
Regular non-exempt staff may be eligible for comp time with supervisor approval and completion of the required agreement.

If necessary, the university may authorize the use of administrative leave in the event of an emergency or inclement weather.
