  • HR Partners: work with Faculty and Staff in need of department-specific support, guidance, and solutions.

  • Faculty and Staff Relations: provide guidance on workplace concerns, conflict resolution, and policy compliance to foster a positive and productive work environment.
  • Workers Compensation: assist employees injured on the job with navigating the claims process, getting the resources they need and recovering smoothly.
  • Faculty and Staff Emergency Fund: provide financial assistance to employees facing unexpected hardships.
  • Leave Donation Program:  encourage employees to donate accrued leave to colleagues in need, providing additional support during extended medical or personal emergencies.

What We Do

HR Data and Systems enhances our ability to adopt emerging technologies, streamline workflows, and ensure accurate, reliable workforce data. Our team maintains HRIS integrity, implements paperless processes, and provides timely, high-quality informational services.

What We Do

  • Consult and Innovate: partner with campus stakeholders to define and improve data solutions.
  • System Support: maintain and enhance HR systems, including PeopleSoft and Taleo.
  • Data and Reporting: develop and manage employee data queries and reports.
  • Information Access: provide statistical data to internal and external customers.

What's New

  • Hours of Operation: The Office of Human Resources will now be closing at 4:30 p.m.

Hiring and recruitment updates:

  • The recruiter for Academic Affairs will be temporarily Paul Wege, and the Recruiter for Student Affairs will be temporarily Nyasha Lumumba, until the permanent Recruiter vacancy is filled.
  • Our Employee Referral Program is underway. Faculty and staff may be eligible to receive a bonus of up to $ 1,750.00 for referring a qualified external candidate.
  • Secondary Employment Opportunities: Current TU employees have access to several secondary employment opportunities, including seasonal positions with Parking & Transportation. Please visit us here for more information. 

New Initiatives:

  •  TU has announced a new initiative honoring new and recent graduates. We are celebrating faculty, staff, and their loved ones. Visit our Family Graduation Recognition page for more information. 
  • We are unveiling a new employee mentorship program to enhance leadership opportunities for our workforce. Please take a few minutes to complete our brief survey by September 5. 
  • The Office of Human Resources has developed a Total Rewards calculator, which is scheduled to launch in Fall 2025.

Professional Development 

  • September's training calendar has been updated, including sessions such as Best Practices for Coaching, Counseling, and Disciplinary Action. Visit the training calendar for more information and registration links.
  • The Office of Human Resources, in collaboration with the Dr. Nancy Grasmick Leadership Institute, will offer two leadership development opportunities for TU faculty and staff this fall. Register for sessions here.
  • Registration is now open for USM Professional Development Week. This year's virtual conference theme is Change and Resilience in the Workplace. To learn more, visit the USM website

BENEFITS

  • Leave Donation Program: Requests to access hours from the leave donation bank are now available. To request donated sick leave, you must have at least 180 days of USM or state service.  You must provide the requested/sufficient medical certification confirming the serious health condition. To apply, please visit the Request to Receive Donated Leave Form.
  • Open Enrollment: Open Enrollment for benefits will take place from October 14th to November 7th this year.
  • MSRP plans transitioning from Nationwide to Empower on September 18th:
    • Your Maryland State Employees Supplemental Retirement Plans (457(b), 401(k), 403(b), and 401(a)/match) are moving from Nationwide to Empower.

    • September 10, 4 p.m. - Blackout period begins (no changes allowed)

    • Week of September 21 - Blackout period ends, full access restored via Empower (phone, online, mobile app). 

    • Empower will freeze 403(b) plans after January 1, 2026. No new contributions will be accepted.
